‘If MS Dhoni does that, he will score 400 runs in next IPL’: Sunil Gavaskar has advice for CSK captain – cricket

Chennai Super Kings played their final 2020 IPL match on Sunday, where they defeated Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets. They were already out of the playoff race, but the victory against KXIP helped them end their season on a positive note.

In what was CSK’s worst IPL season, captain MS Dhoni provided a glimmer of hope in his last game when he said ‘Definitely not’. It was MS Dhoni’s response to commentator Danny Morrison, who asked if the KXIP clash was going to be the last yellow game of the first.

Not only did cricket lovers have a reason to be happy, but former Indian captain and hitting legend Sunil Gavaskar seemed elated after hearing the news. He expressed his joy on the pre-game show on Star Sports.

“He’s been such a charismatic cricketer, he brings a lot of joy with his hitting, with his ground maintenance and leadership qualities. And his general behavior on and off the field, what a role model he has been. The more we see MS Dhoni, the better we feel, ”Gavaskar said with a wide smile on his face.

IPL 2020 witnessed the return of MS Dhoni to the cricket field after almost 13 months. His rust and bat fight were nothing more than the effect of being away from competitive cricket. As a result, the CSK captain had the worst start in IPL history: 200 runs, 7 sixes and no scores over fifty.

Emphasizing this fact, Gavaskar warned that Dhoni must continue to play at least national cricket so as not to waste time.

“He has to play competitive cricket. Being on the net is fine, but unless you play competitive cricket, especially since you are at an age where reflexes decline. What you tend to lose as you get older is your time, ”Gavaskar said.

“Everything could look good. You can go to the gym to get stronger and fitter. But your time changes. You think your foot is going towards the ball, but it is too short for you to make a good drive or the ball goes into the air, “he added.

Gavaskar also believes that if Dhoni becomes a regular in domestic cricket, he can regain his form and score 400 runs in the next IPL season.

“He has to play domestic cricket. There may be no domestic cricket. In that case, not much can be done. But the more competitive cricket plays, actually the matches … in the networks, there will be no pressure, the match brings pressure. If he does that, I think it will also be good to score 400 runs next year, ”said Gavaskar.
