Indian patron Virat Kohli ruled the show at the first ICC Decade Awards winning two prestigious honors in a virtual ceremony on Monday. Kohli, who has been a prolific run scorer for the Indian team in the 50-over format for the past 10 years, won the men’s ODI Player of the Decade award and the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Decade. After Kohli won the awards, Australian starter David Warner took to Instagram to share a hilarious face-swapping video of himself, with his face superimposed on that of the Indian captain. The fun aside, Warner congratulated Kohli on winning the two “well deserved” awards.
“No one will guess this player of the decade @ virat.kohli #congrats #funny #faceswap #seriousplayer #gun #wellmereved,” Warned wrote on Instagram.
In no time, the post went viral and received more than 10 billion views in less than an hour and fans flooded the post with their responses. When a fan asked Warner if he was unhappy that he didn’t win any of the awards, the explosive starter said, “No one can compete with him.”
In response to a comment on his post, Warner said: “I had to do this, it’s the best of our era.”
In addition to Kohli, former Indian captain MS Dhoni won the ICC Spirit of Cricket of the Decade award. Speaking of other winners, Warner’s compatriot Steve Smith won the ICC Test Player of the Decade award, while Afghan Rashid Khan took the ICC T20I Player of the Decade award.
While Warner did not win any awards, he was included in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Decade and the ODI Team of the Decade.
