Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been in flawless shape lately. After a memorable series of tests in Australia, it became more deadly at home against England. His sheer brilliance in Chennai helped India level the series 1-1 while in Ahmedabad he teamed up with Axar Patel to smash the English batting lineup at the world’s largest cricket stadium.

In due course, Ashwin also became the second fastest bowler to rip 400 wickets in test cricket. He ended up scalping with 7 wickets in the pink ball event, which India won comprehensively by 10 wickets.

After a series of stellar performances, Ashwin finally revealed how he prepares for a particular game. In a one-on-one session with fielding coach R Sridhar, the fan said he looks at a lot of footage before a game so as to leave no stone unturned regarding his preparations.

“In Australia, before the Adelaide test, I saw images for eight hours straight. Planning for me goes to a different level. I don’t know why I started doing it but it’s just that I don’t want to leave a stone unturned. I used to see a lot of images even before, but I think the understanding of the game has gone a bit higher, “said Ashwin.

“What happened during the lockdown was that I was watching a lot of cricket from the past, like the Sachin (Tendulkar) hundred in Chepauk and all kinds of things on YouTube. And I started to make fine tails and I thought why I had not chosen all these things and had not imagined all these things and I just realized. After that I started to see images differently and once I started to watch it became fun because I can pick the hitters like what they are doing and even before I throw the ball I understand what kind of shot they are going to take. ”He added.

During Test 3, Ashwin also became the second-fastest pitcher to tear off 400 wickets in the game’s longest format. Reflecting on the same, he said: “Initial feeling? To be honest, it was pretty empty because today we were under immense pressure. We only got a 30-run lead and the game was up for grabs. I was in the moment, and it was only after we took the DRS that I realized the feat of the 400 wicket. After the 400 wickets were shown on the board, the whole stadium was up and everyone was clapping. I can’t point my finger and say (exactly) how I feel. “
