The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals by five wickets to win their fifth Indian Premier League title on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma and company showed solid form throughout the tournament and most of the time the team couldn’t fight them.
The reason behind this form was that the Mumbai unit was filled with various match winners. One of them was Suryakumar Yadav, who even earned recognition from the coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri, for his endurance on the field.
In Tuesday’s final, Suryakumar came out to bat in the fifth and started with a four and a six on the first two balls he faced. While Surya did what he’s been doing for MI all season, skipper Rohit Sharma eased the pressure from the other end.
However, when IM approached 90 in the middle of the chase, the team lost to Suryakumar in the eleventh after a confusion in the middle with Rohit.
After playing the ball directly into the middle, the captain pushed for a single but Suryakumar looked unsure. But with Rohit already reaching the end of the non-forward, the batter sacrificed his wicket.
Suryakumar’s selfless act made many take to social media and speak well of his character.

Speaking about the incident during the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit said: “In the kind of way I was, I should have sacrificed my window for Surya.”
Mumbai completed the 157-run chase comfortably with eight balls to spare. Meanwhile, Suryakumar finished as Mumbai ‘s third-highest run scorer, racking up 480 runs in 15 innings.
