Kohli had a bad day in office on Thursday when he led the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kings XI Punjab. He released two sacks of rival skipper KL Rahul and only managed a five-ball run in pursuit of RCB.
While Kohli was still in the fold, Gavaskar said the India captain is eager to improve and knows he can only do so by practicing more and more. Then he added that during the confinement Kohli faced Anushka’s bowling alone and is showing that it did not help much.
Gavaskar was speaking in Hindi when he made the comment.
However, the comment was not well received by fans of Kohli and Anushka and some even demanded their dismissal. Sports star comment panel, lashing out at him on social media.
In reaction to this, Anushka also issued a statement on her Instagram page, saying that Gavaskar’s message was “in bad taste.”
However, Gavaskar said his comments were not understood in the correct context.
The comment, according to Gavaskar, referred to a video clip in which Kohli and Anushka were seen enjoying a tennis ball and cricket in their enclosure.
“First of all I’d like to say, where do I blame her? I don’t blame her. I’m just saying that the video showed that she was bowling for Virat. Virat has only played that many bowls in this lockout period.” Gavaskar said. she told the India Today channel.
“It’s a fun tennis ball game where people have to hang out during the confinement, so that’s it, so where do I blame her for Virat’s failures.”
Gavaskar also dismissed accusations on social media that he made a “sexist comment.”
“I am the one who has always fought for the wives who go with their husbands on tour. I am the one who has always said that, like a normal man who goes to the office for a 9-5 job, when he comes home, he returns to his wife, similarly, why can’t cricketers have their wives with them? ”Gavaskar said.
He also tried to explain his comment.
“As you can hear from the comment, Aakash was talking about the fact that there has been very little chance of proper practice in the confinement, for everyone …
“….. that has shown the oxidation of some of the players in their first matches. Rohit (Sharma) didn’t hit the ball well, now in the second match he has runs, MSD (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) did not hit the ball well in the first game. ”
Then he also explained exactly what he said.
“….. Anushka was bowling, so that’s what I said, that’s the only bowling alley, I haven’t used any other words. She was bowling, that’s all, where did she go? I blame where I am sexist on this. ”
“I’m just saying what was seen in the video that maybe it was recorded by someone in the neighboring buildings and placed and that is the only thing I am doing, but what I am trying to do is that there was no practice for anyone, including Virat. , in the confinement.
“… I have not been sexist, if someone has played it, what can I do,” Gavaskar said.
