Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who recently voluntarily retired from his service, joined Janata Dal (United) on Sunday after repeatedly stating that he would not join politics. On Saturday, Pandey met with Prime Minister Nitish Kumar at the party’s office and again dismissed speculation about his incorporation into politics. After being the center of controversy between the Maharashtra police and the Bihar police in the investigation of the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput, their sudden decision to withdraw from their services sparked speculation.
“CM himself called me and asked me to join. Whatever the party asks me to do, I will do it. I don’t understand the politics. I am a simple person who has spent his time working for the oppressed section of society, ”he said.
Pandey’s voluntary retirement just before the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections got the talk, as political ambition is not new to this 1987 IPS officer. In March 2009, he retired prematurely because, according to He reportedly wanted to participate in the Lok Sabha elections with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidacy, but was not granted one.
On Saturday, the former DGP met with Nitish Kumar but said it was not a political meeting. “I came here to thank the Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, who gave me complete freedom to work. There were no polls related talks and I have not yet decided if I would join JD (U), ”Pandey had said. But sources from JD (U) have confirmed that the former DGP “would join the party at the earliest. ”
Right after his voluntary retirement, a music video featuring Pandey as ‘Bihar’s Robinhood’ was released on YouTube, in what is seen as the basis for building his image.
Bihar is scheduled to go to the polls in three phases: October 29, November 3 and November 7. The scrutiny will take place on November 10.
