On Wednesday, world number four Roger Federer had the idea to merge the tours of men and women. Swiss star Wawrinka supports the notion of a unified tennis tour, however he feels that it cannot be implemented in the near future. Also, there have been discussions about the unification of ATP and WTA, but nothing has been made official so far.
“Not only comment, there is more conversation behind, ATP and Gaudenzi have already been talking about it.” Stan Wawrinka said to Evert. “Trying to find something to bring WTA and ATP together.”
“Trying to find a way to help each other. I think for the fans, the tennis players, the women, the men, for both tours it will be great. They just need to find the right path. I think as a player it will be great for tennis and tennis fans, but I don’t know if that is possible or not. “

WTA Tour was founded in 1973 by Billie Jean King, and in the 1970s King also wanted a combined tour for men and women. His proposal back then was rejected, and the men’s tour paid no attention to the idea of merging the tour.
