Just three years after the implementation of the BS-IV, manufacturers had to develop engines that met the new standards. This, along with the already struggling industry posed a major problem for manufacturers.

The Hyundai Aura is ARAI qualified to return 25.4 Kmpl. The car is powered by a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine that generates 75 hp and 190 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to an AMT 5-speed manual gearbox and is the smallest diesel engine currently for sale in India.
Tata Altroz
The Tata Altroz returned a mileage of 25.11 kmpl in ARAI tests. The car is powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, and delivers 75 hp with 190 Nm of torque (using the less tuned version of Tata Nexon) and hits on the mileage chart. This engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Diesel
In ARAI tests, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios delivered a mileage of 25.1 kmpl. Powering the Grand i10 Nios is the same engine as the Aura AMT, which means that at the bottom is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, generating 75 hp and 190 Nm of torque. The Hyundai Verna delivered 25 kmpl in ARAI tests. The Verna is currently the only car in the executive sedan segment that is available with a diesel engine. The unit is a 1.5 liter, 115 hp, 250 NM diesel engine shared with Crete, the Verna, borrowed from the sister Kia, has attractive appeal to buyers.
Honda Amaze Diesel
The Honda Amaze diesel is rated at 24.7 kmpl by ARAI and is powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, which delivers 100 horsepower and produces 200 Nm of torque. It is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic gearbox.
