New Delhi:
On Monday, India successfully flight-tested the nation’s developed hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle (HSTDV) which is expected to power long-range missile systems and futuristic aerial platforms, authorities said.
The HSTDV, based on hypersonic propulsion technologies, has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), they said.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO on the successful test flight of the HSTDV, calling it a “historic achievement”.
“I congratulate DRDO on this historic achievement in making PM’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat a reality. I spoke with the scientists associated with the project and congratulated them on this great achievement. India is proud of them,” he tweeted.

A DRDO official said that with the successful test flight of the HSTDV, India has demonstrated capabilities for highly complex technology that will serve as the foundation for next-generation hypersonic vehicles in partnership with the national defense industry.
The HSTDV powers cruise missiles and operates with scramjet engines that can reach speeds of around Mach 6, which is much better than ramjet engines, officials said.
