Hyderabad Police Run 2Kms to Clear Ambulance Traffic & Win Hearts on Social Media

Hyderabad: A video of a traffic policeman running for almost 2 kilometers on a busy Hyderabad highway to make way for an ambulance has gone viral and won the hearts of netizens.

G Babji, a traffic officer in Hyderabad, was on duty near Koti when he saw an ambulance struggling to move during rush hour traffic Monday night. He quickly seized the opportunity and ran almost 2 kilometers so that the driver could get the patient to the hospital as quickly as possible.

He may not have thought his good deed would make him a social media star, but someone inside the ambulance recorded a video of him running to make way for the vehicle and posted it online. The video has since gone viral and netizens, particularly Hyderabadis, are praising the police hero.

“HTP Officer Babji from Abids Traffic PS clearing the way for an ambulance … Well done … HTP serving citizens,” tweeted Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Anil Kumar.

While most praised Babji, many of them raised questions about why the public was not making way for the ambulance on their own despite the loud siren. Citizen pointed out that a bigger change was needed to change the general attitude instead of having police rush down a busy street asking people to yield to an ambulance.
