How to record a video conference in Zoom, Google Meet

Amidst the COVID-19 crash, we trust video conferencing applications more than ever. These platforms not only help us stay connected with friends and family, they also help students attend conferences and the working class attend meetings. Most students and employees must often record classes and meetings for the future. Platforms like Zoom and Google Meet come with video recording functionality. Today, we share with you the step-by-step process of how you can record Google Meet and Zoom meetings from next time.

How to record Zoom meetings

Zoom allows recording of video calls for both free and paid subscribers, however, local recording is not compatible with iOS and Android and the cloud recording option is available only for paid accounts. Here’s how you can record your video call sessions in Zoom:

* If you are the host of a Zoom call, you can start recording by clicking the record button on the toolbar at the bottom of the call window.

* Paid subscribers will see an option to choose between local and cloud recording when they click on the recording option.

* Local recordings will be converted to MP4 files and saved to your computer when the meeting ends.

* You can also pause or stop recording during the video call using the buttons on the toolbar.

* If you participate, you need the permission of the host to record the video call.

* The host must go to “Manage participants”> select a participant> click “More” and click “Allow registration”.

How to record video calls on Google Meet

Google has opened free access to Google Meet video call recording until September 30 so you can join Meet with a Gmail account. After this period, the recording will be available only to customers of G Suite Enterprise accounts. Google has provided the following steps to record Google Meet:

* Once you are in a meeting, click on the icon with three vertical dots in the lower right corner of the screen.

* Now click the “Record Meeting” option on the menu to start recording.

* Unlike Zoom, all meeting participants can freely record the video call together with the host.

* You can click the three vertical dots again and click the “Stop Recording” option in the menu to stop recording.

* The recordings will be saved on your Google Drive in a folder called “Meet Recordings”.

* The Google Meet video call host will also get the recording link along with the person who started the recording.

* In addition, Google Meet informs meeting participants when someone starts recording.
