Two Covid-19 vaccines have been approved by the General Drug Enforcement of India (DCGI) for restricted emergency use. Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech are ready to supply vaccines for the first phase of vaccination, which will include frontline workers followed by people over 50 years of age. To continue with the vaccination process, the central government has introduced an app called Co-WIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Work).
IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced on December 23, 2020 a challenge to strengthen the Co-Win system, which will be a digitized platform for the deployment of the vaccine in the country. Prasad even announced a cash prize of Rs 40 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively for the top two contestants.
Co-Win App Availability
First of all, the Co-Win app is not functional yet and if you have downloaded any app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store it won’t work. You must refrain from downloading such applications or providing them access to your personal data.
The application is currently in the pre-product stage. It has the details of the health officials who will be first in line to receive the vaccine. More than 75 lakhs of health officials have already been registered.
How to register
Currently, ordinary people cannot register for the upcoming coronavirus pandemic vaccine, as only officials have access to it for now. Once the application is up and running, it will have four modules: user manager module, beneficiary registration, vaccine and beneficiary recognition, and status update.
Once live, the Co-WIN app or website will offer three registration options, including self-registration, individual registration, and bulk upload. The logistics of it have yet to be revealed. Perhaps the government will organize camps where people can go and officials will register them to receive the vaccine. Additionally, surveyors and district administrators will also be able to register multiple recipients.
Necessary documents and cost
Individuals will need to upload a photo ID to register. It can be an Aadhar card, a driver’s license, a PAN card and others. Union Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan has announced that vaccination will be free for frontline workers. The cost to the general public has yet to be announced.
