The Miss India pageant in 1994 was memorable for more than one reason. At the trial were Aishwarya Rai, a model who was already a favorite to win the crown, and the helpless Sushmita Sen. By his own admission, Sushmita had wondered before the competition if he should drop out of the competition since Aishwarya was also competing.
However, she persisted and won the Miss India crown and later the Miss Universe pageant; Aishwarya became Miss World the same year. Apparently, it was the tiebreaker round that tipped the competition in Sushmita’s favor.
Aishwarya was asked the question, “If you have to look for qualities in a husband, would you look for the qualities in Ridge Forrester in” The Bold & Beautiful “or in Mason Capwell in” Saint Barbara “?” Aishwarya’s response was: “Mason. They have a lot in common, but from what we can see, Mason has a very loving side of him and an excellent sense of humor. And that really goes with my character.”
The question Sushmita was asked was: “What do you know about the textile heritage of your country? How old are you and what do you prefer to use personally? Sush replied, “I think it all started with Mahatma Gandhi’s khadi. It has come a long way since then, but the foundations of Indian textile heritage have been from there.”
Both Aishwarya and Sushmita continued to chart their paths of success in the film industry. While Aishwarya will soon be seen in Ponniyin Selvan by Mani Ratnam, Sushmita has been off the big screen for a while. She was last seen in the 2015 Bengali film Nirbaak.
