New Delhi: Mohammed Azharuddin, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, made an important decision in 1994 that played an important role in Sachin Tendulkar’s sports career. It allowed Tendulkar to open the inning against New Zealand in Auckland.

Narrating the incident that led to his promotion in the order, Tendulkar said he expressed his willingness to open the match as Navjot Sidhu was unable to play due to a stiff neck.
Tendulkar said: “I told Azharuddin that if he failed, I would never see him again.”
Azharuddin, Ajit agreed
After seeing the confidence of Tendulkar, Azharuddin and Ajit Wadekar, the team captain and coach respectively agreed and said: “If you are confident, we will support you.”
In the game, Tendulkar scored 82 runs of 49 balls.
After that game, except for a couple of times, he went down as the game’s starter.

Previously, speaking about the reason for promoting Tendulkar in the order, Azharuddin said that at No. 5 or 6, Tendulkar couldn’t score much despite his good hitting performance.
