Hours after welcoming him, BJP shows the door to Shaheen Bagh’s shooter, Kapil Gujjar

Kapil Gujjar reportedly fired shots into the air at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh in February against the nationwide Anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests.

In a dramatic turn of events, Kapil Gujjar, who allegedly fired shots in the air in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh in February 2020 to oppose the Anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Law protest, joined the BJP in office Wednesday of the party in Ghaziabad. However, hours later his membership was revoked.

Sanjeev Sharma, district president of the BJP, said The Hindu that he had no information about Mr. Gujjar’s past. “He came with supporters to join the party. We did not know of his criminal record. As soon as we found out, we canceled their membership, ”said Mr. Sharma, who could be seen covering Mr. Gujjar with a saffron stole in photographs.

In videos of the February 1 incident, which went viral on social media, Mr. Gujjar could be heard saying, “In our country, only Hindus will prevail, no one else.” He fired two or three shots into the air before being detained by the police. He’s out on bail.

After joining the BJP, Mr. Gujjar told reporters that the party was working to “strengthen (the ideology) of Hindutva and that is why it had joined him.

When his shooting videos first appeared, the BJP had said that Mr. Gujjar’s family had ties to the Aam Aadmi Party.

The AAP said on Wednesday that Gujjar’s induction into the BJP clearly exposed that “the party’s plan was to create a riot in Delhi.”

AAP questions BJP

“Just 72 hours before the elections, when the model code of conduct was in effect, the then DCP of the Delhi Police said that Kapil Gujjar had an association with the Aam Aadmi Party. Thereafter, BJP Chairman JP Nadda said that Kapil Gujjar was a terrorist and that AAP was sheltering those terrorists. Today, on behalf of the AAP, I want to ask the BJP why a terrorist joins their party, ”said AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj.
