Honda Cars India will discontinue its flagship models: the Civic sedan and the CR-V SUV in the country. This announcement follows the company’s decision to end vehicle production at its Greater Noida plant and move its entire production unit to the Honda Tapukara plant in Alwar district, Rajasthan. Commenting on the development, a Honda Cars India spokesperson told carandbike: “Due to the discontinuation of production at the Greater Noida unit, there will be no production of CR-V and Civic as both models cannot be manufactured at the plant. of Tapukara, which was conceived as a high-efficiency integrated plant for the production of small and medium-sized cars. “

Honda, which is moving its entire production unit to the Tapukara plant, says it cannot make the CR-V and Civic on site.

In addition to production-related issues, we must also consider the fact that both the Honda Civic and the CR-V have been two of the best-selling models in the company’s range. In the last six months alone, the company has only sold around 850 Civic units and just over 100 CR-V units in India. By comparison, the recently launched seventh-generation Honda City averages 4,000 units per month, while the WR-V is good for around 1,000 units per month. The Honda Amaze continued to be the company’s best-seller with around 5,000 units a month, while the Honda Jazz accounted for almost 700 units a month, on average.

The Honda Civic was priced between ₹ 17.94 lakh and ₹ 22.35 lakh, while the CR-V was priced at ₹ 28.27 lakh to ₹ 29.50 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi ). Interestingly, in September 2020, Honda introduced the revamped CR-V globally, and it’s working on the next-gen Civic sedan as well. However, with the discontinuation of existing models here and Honda India shutting down the production unit of the Greater Noida plant, the chances of the cars making it to India are bleak.
