As we approach a new year, the Reserve Bank of India has released the list of days banks will be inactive in 2021. According to the RBI, banks will be closed on Sundays as well as the second and fourth. Saturday.

According to a report in mintTo celebrate the New Year, the RBI has declared a bank holiday in Chennai, Aizawl, Gangtok, Imphal and Shillong. Other than these locations, banks will continue to operate in all other major cities on January 1, 2021.

In Aizwal, banks will also be closed on January 2 for the New Year celebrations, while banks in Calcutta will not operate on January 12 due to Swami Vivekananda’s birthday.

In Ahmedabad, banks in Gangtok and Hyderabad will be closed on January 14 due to Makar Sankranti, while banks in Chennai will close their doors from January 15-17.

Apart from other days, banks will also be closed on Republic Day.

  • January 1, 2021 – New Years
  • January 2, 2021 – New Years Celebration
  • January 3, 2021- Sunday
  • January 9, 2021 – Second Saturday
  • January 10, 2021 – Weekly off (Sunday)
  • January 12, 2021 – Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday
  • January 14, 2021 – Makar Sankranti / Pongal / Maghe Sankranti
  • January 15, 2021 – Thiruvalluvar / Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja Day
  • January 16, 2021 – Uzhavar Thirunal
  • January 17, 2021- Sunday
  • January 20, 2021: Guru Govind Singh Ji’s birthday
  • January 23, 2021 – Fourth Saturday, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Birthday
  • January 24, 2021- Sunday
  • January 25, 2021- Imoinu Iratpa
  • January 26, 2021 – Republic Day
  • January 31, 2021- Sunday

Apart from the aforementioned dates, banks will remain closed in selective states on the following dates:

  • January 15th in Hyderabad due to Thiruvalluvar, Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja Day.
  • January 20 in Chandigarh on the occasion of Guru Govind Singh Ji’s birthday.
  • January 23 in Agartala on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
  • January 25 in Imphal due to Imoinu Iratpa.

According to a report in DNAAlthough banks will be physically closed on these dates, mobile and internet banking will continue to operate. The year 2021 will see 40 bank holidays.
