‘High levels of preparedness underway on land, sea and air’: CDS Bipin Rawat amid clash with China

The Indian armed forces will leave no stone unturned to safeguard the nation, be it on land, air or ocean, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat said on Monday. The comments were made amid India’s clash with neighboring China in Ladakh.

“We are in a stalemate situation in Ladakh and based on that there is some development activity that has been going on in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Each nation will continue to prepare to guarantee its security based on its strategic interest, ”Rawat said, citing the ANI news agency.

Rawat also confirmed that “high levels of preparedness” are taking place on land, sea and air as “China tries to change the status quo on the Royal Line of Control (LAC) along the northern border.”

Underlining the importance of technology in the armed forces, the Chief of Defense Staff said: “The time has come to look to the future of the technology of war embedded in our systems. We have the appropriate forces to counter any threat or challenge we may face on the northern borders.

The comments come as India authorized defense forces to upgrade their stocks of weapons and ammunition for an intense 15-day war, as the country finds itself in the middle of a conflict with China over the border row in eastern Ladakh. the ANI news agency reported on Sunday.

The authorization to increase the stockpiles of arms and ammunition to minimum levels of 15-I from the previous 10-day stocks is to prepare the defense forces for a two-front war with China and Pakistan.

The three services were also given emergency financial powers to purchase items worth Rs 300 million to purchase whatever equipment they believed might be useful for fighting wars. The defense forces have been purchasing a number of spare parts, weapons, missiles and systems to effectively engage the two adversaries.

India has been engaged with China in the eastern Ladakh sector since May, where transgressions from the Chinese side have been reported in multiple places throughout LAC.
