1983 World Cup winner India captain Kapil Dev was released from a hospital in New Delhi on Sunday, two days after undergoing angioplasty after a heart attack. The former Indian SUV had complained of chest pain on Thursday, after which he was taken to the emergency department at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. According to a statement released by the hospital, Kapil Dev is now well and will soon be able to resume his usual daily activity.
“Sir. Kapil Dev was discharged this afternoon. He is fine and will soon be able to resume his usual daily activity. He will be under regular follow-up consultation with Dr. Atul Mathur,” the hospital said in a statement.

Kapil Dev’s former teammate in India, Chetan Sharma, also tweeted a picture of him with the doctor who had performed the angioplasty procedure. “Dr. Atul Mathur performed a Kapil paji angioplasty. The legendary off-roader received a wish for a speedy recovery from many on social media, including the current captain of India, Virat Kohli, and the great Sachin Tendulkar, among others. Kapil, one of the best cricketers in India, played 131 tests and 225 ODI.

He remains the only player in cricket history to claim more than 400 wickets (434) and accumulate more than 5000 races in Trials.
He also served as the national coach of India from 1999 to 2000. Kapil was inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame in 2010.
