Heavy rains in northern K’taka, crops destroyed; T’gana CM call review meeting, NDRF teams in Latur, Solapur


The Met’s department has issued the advisory for more than 15 districts in Maharashtra, including Kolhapur, Pune, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Osmanabad. Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions are expected to see rain on Wednesday, while Mumbai and Konkan regions are expected to see rain on October 15 and 16, according to reports.

The meteorological department also said that fishermen are advised not to venture into the west-central, northwestern and southwestern Bay of Bengal, along and off the coasts of Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and on the Gulf of Mannar on October 13-14.

Some reports indicated that a flood-like situation has occurred in Baramati’s Nimgaon Ketki village and the administration rescued some 40 people when water entered residential areas due to heavy rains. Traffic on the Pune-Solapur highway was also affected on Wednesday.

According to SDO, Baramati, Pune, 40 people were safely rescued, while rescue operations for another 15 are underway in the flood-affected Nimgaon Ketki village of Pune district. In another incident near Indapur, two people who were dragged with their vehicle were rescued.

On Wednesday, heavy rains were also reported in Andhra Pradesh, northern Karnataka and southern Odisha. In Telangana, the Army had to be called as the situation became critical. The city reported at least 18 deaths, but government sources said the death toll could rise as there were a number of cases of people being dragged away and still not counted.
