The rains continued to hit early Sunday morning and threatened residents living in the low-lying areas of the Udupi district. Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister in charge of the district, Dakshina Kannada, told reporters that more NDRF teams will be arriving in Udupi to help with the rescue efforts.
A helpline number – 1077 – is active in getting Udupi residents to file rain damage complaints.
Meanwhile, heavy rain was reported in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday and a worker died after the wall of a school complex collapsed in the Kulur area of Mangaluru. Umesh, 38, a salaried worker who worked daily near the school grounds and was buried in the rubble after the wall collapsed.
