Health officials confirm that more than half of coronavirus cases in Ireland have fully recovered

Health officials have confirmed for the first time how many people with coronavirus in Ireland have fully recovered.

Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan explained that 55% of all cases have recovered from the virus in the community.

While another 856 patients with the insect have been discharged from the hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,233.

However, he warned that “there is no room for complacency” as Ireland continues to tackle the pandemic.

He said: “An analysis of 15,186 cases reveals that 8,377 (55%) have fully recovered from Covid-19 in the community.

“We are now in our eighth week since the first Covid-19 case was reported in Ireland.

“In that space of time, we as a country have managed to suppress the virus in our community.

“As we move forward, we must try to protect our vulnerable populations and maintain the progress we have made so far. There is no room for complacency.”

It comes after the Health Department confirmed that 44 other people have died from the coronavirus in Ireland.

388 new cases of Covid-19 have also been confirmed here tonight.

A total of 730 patients have died of the virus.

Of the new deaths, 37 of them corresponded to patients located in the east, two in the west, two in the northwest and three in the south of the country.

There were 26 women and 18 men among the deceased, and the average age of reported deaths is 87.


Health officials confirmed that 33 of the patients had underlying health conditions.

Meanwhile, another 388 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Irish laboratories.

A total of 16,040 people have now tested positive for coronavirus here.
