The Congress party said on Saturday that the head of its Uttar Pradesh unit, Ajay Kumar Lallu, was placed under house arrest ahead of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s visit to meet with the family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, that she was allegedly gang-raped and murdered.
“The president of the UP Congress, Shri Ajay Kumar Lallu ji, has been placed under house arrest. How scared this government is. We are not going to stop ”, tweeted the UP Congress.
Ajay Kumar Lallu also said that he has been placed under house arrest. “What is the state government trying to hide? Who do you want to save? Today, women in Uttar Pradesh are not safe. There is anarchy in the state ”, he was quoted by the ANI news agency.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will meet the Dalit woman’s family along with other leaders on Saturday, a couple of days after Uttar Pradesh police stopped them on their way to their village.
“Deputies of Congress under the leadership of former Congress President Shri. @RahulGandhi will go to #Hathras this afternoon to meet the grieving family of the 19-year-old daughter from Uttar Pradesh, who was brutally assaulted and murdered, ”party leader KC Venugopal tweeted earlier that day.
“Delegation of @INCIndia directed by Shri. @RahulGandhi will meet with family members to hear their complaints and demand justice for the victim and his family who have been denied justice by the BJP government and are seriously traumatized by the BJP government in UP, ”he added.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were detained by the police as they were on their way to meet the woman’s family on Thursday.
