Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is proud of legends such as Jayaprakash Narayan and social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh and tweeted his gratitude to the leaders on his birth anniversary.
For Jayaprakash Narayan, nothing mattered more than the welfare of the people and the national interest as he bravely fought for the freedom of the country, Prime Minister Modi said.
“I bow to Loknayak JP on his Jayanti. He fought valiantly for the freedom of India and when our democratic spirit was attacked, he led a strong mass movement to protect it. For him, there was nothing above the national interest and the well-being of the people, ”said the prime minister’s tweet.
Nanaji Deshmukh was a stalwart of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a recipient of Padma Vibhushan. He worked in the fields of education, health and rural development and self-reliance.
“The great Nanaji Deshmukh was one of Loknayak JP’s most devoted followers. He worked tirelessly to popularize JP’s thoughts and ideals. His own work towards rural development motivates us. Remembering Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh in his Jayanti, ”Prime Minister Modi said in another tweet.
“India is proud that legends like Loknayak JP and Nanaji Deshmukh were born on this land. Today is a day to rededicate ourselves to fulfilling his vision for our nation, ”he added.
