HYDERABAD: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday that the Indochina border confrontation showed that the country was not weak and could give an adequate response to any kind of transgression, aggression or unilateral acts.
As the two countries have held several rounds of talks to resolve the issue, Singh said that India wants a peaceful resolution of the disputes, but stated that no harm to their self-esteem will be tolerated.
In his speech at the combined graduation parade at Dundigul Air Force Station here, the defense minister also said that “China’s attitude reflected that country’s intentions” during these times of COVID-19.
“But we have shown that India is not weak. This is the new India that will give an adequate response to any kind of transgression, aggression or any unilateral act,” he said.
India has found support from many countries, even when it has received praise, he added.
Noting that rounds of talks have been held at the diplomatic and military level to resolve the issue, the Defense Minister said, “Let me reiterate, we do not want conflict but peace.”
“But we will not tolerate any damage to the self-esteem of the country,” said the defense minister.
The country was prepared to face any situation, he added.
Referring to the western sector, Singh said that Pakistan was participating in skirmishes on the borders and accused the neighbor of participating in an “indirect war” using terrorism, despite being defeated by India in four wars.
The military and police are effectively dealing with terrorism, he said.
The country is not only handling terrorism effectively within the country, it is even taking action across borders, he said referring to air strikes on the terrorist camps at Balakot in Pakistan.
This demonstrated to the world India’s military strength and the country’s strong intentions against terrorism, he added.
