‘He can even score a double of one hundred on ODIs’: Aakash Chopra wants 28-year-old batsman to open for Team India in Australia – cricket

The first game of the India tour of Australia will be played on November 27 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The first One Day International of the three-match series will see both teams battle each other to gain momentum in the contest. There will be a notable absence from the squad as Vice Captain Rohit Sharma will be absent as he is still recovering from injury.

There will be a void at the top of the order created by Rohit’s absence. Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Sanju Samson will battle for a starting spot in the team. But former India international Aakash Chopra wants the India team to go with Rahul in the opening spot as he has the ability to hit twice a hundred in ODI.

“My heart says that KL Rahul should start because the type of player he is, he scores hundreds and, in my opinion, if he plays very well he can even score double 100 in ODIs. You have to make it open if you want to do justice to his abilities, ”Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

As a hitter, KL Rahul was absolutely impressive in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL). With 670 runs to his credit, Rahul came out as the tournament’s top run scorer. He checked all the boxes as a hitter, but how successful was he as a captain at the 2020 IPL? Under Rahul’s leadership, KXIP lost six of the first seven games. Later, they came back with five wins in a row and then lost the last two games in the league stage, without reaching the playoffs.

Following KXIP’s track record this season, Chopra opined that Rahul will have to take some of the blame as the team failed to find its ideal XI.

“He was 50-50 with the captaincy of KL Rahul. Because you will have to bear part of the blame that Kings XI Punjab cannot find their ideal XI. I’m sure these are team management decisions and all that, but you also play a role. So that’s a problem because it took some time to figure it out, ”Chopra said in his YouTube video.
