The Delhi High Court on Thursday expressed concern over the rise in COVID-19 cases in the national capital and questioned that the AAP government “does everything it can to unlock” things. “The high court said the Delhi government cannot be allowed to gamble with the lives of citizens and that the state is responsible for the health of citizens, so others must contribute, including private hospitals.
A bench of judges Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad said that the Delhi government needs to be much more attentive to the current situation than the entire city can see for itself. The high court was hearing a plea from the Delhi government urging it to authorize it to enforce the reservation of 80 percent of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients in 33 private hospitals for at least 15 days due to the increase in the number of cases.
Delhi posted its biggest jump in a day of 8,593 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday that brought its infection count to more than 4.59 lakh people, while 85 new deaths brought the death toll in the national capital to 7,228.
