HC asks the Delhi government to urgently decide to contain Covid-19


The Delhi High Court (HC) has asked the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal to take a call immediately and without delay on whether the night curfew should be imposed throughout the national capital or only in parts in the middle of a huge increase in Covid-19.

The HC has also asked the Delhi government to decide whether further measures are needed to contain the coronavirus on the territory of the capital.

The comment from the divisional court of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad came after the HC asked the Kejriwal government if it intended to follow up on the request made to the Ministry of the Interior of the Government of India.

“It is now up to the Delhi government to respond to a call on whether the imposition of a night curfew is required in Delhi or some parts of Delhi and / or other measures should be taken to contain the virus,” the HC noted.

The AAP government informed the Delhi HC, during the hearing, that there is no decision yet on the imposition of some kind of curfew, but it is under “active consideration” depending on the increase in coronavirus infection.

Submit new status report by December 3, HC tells Delhi government

A status report must be filed by Dec. 3, the court added after listing the matter for an additional hearing on that date.

During the hearing, the HC also requested Attorney Anurag Ahulawalia, Permanent Counselor of the Center Government, to obtain clear instructions from the Union of India, reports the news agency. AND ME.

After receiving instructions from the Central Government, Ahulawalia informed the HC that in terms of the new ‘Guidelines for Surveillance, Containment and Precaution’, which were issued on November 25, the states and territories of the Union can now impose local restrictions with Aiming at reducing the spread of the coronavirus, such as night curfew, based on your own assessment of the situation by imposing a local lockdown outside containment zones at the state / district / subdivision / city level will require prior consultation with the central government.

Suggested measures, including stricter enforcement of containment zones, staggered office hours where the weekly positivity rate is above 10%, “appropriate Covid behavior”, and “night curfew after assessing local conditions” , will begin on December 1.

However, the final decision was left to the states, many of which have witnessed a new spike in Covid-19 infections.

During the hearing on Thursday, the HC also asked the Delhi government about the availability of beds in Covid care centers and 33 private hospitals. He also took into account the funeral arrangements in Delhi.

The HC ordered the Delhi government to take concrete steps to manage the crowd in the market area of ​​the city.

The Delhi HC was listening to a petition submitted by Rakesh Malhotra seeking instructions for conducting large-scale rapid tests in the city to identify infected people.

Meanwhile, Delhi on Thursday recorded 5,475 new cases of Covid-19 in a 24-hour span as the number of RT-PCR tests crossed the 28,000 mark, while 91 more deaths brought the city’s death toll to 8,811. .
