NEW DELHI: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday accused the BJP of constructing a narrative to smear the Victim of Hathras, saying that he deserves justice and not slander.
She denounced that the ruling party is building a narrative in Uttar Pradesh for holding the woman responsible for the crimes committed against her.
“Creating a narrative that defames a woman’s character and holding her responsible in some way for the crimes committed against her is disgusting and regressive,” she said on Twitter.

“A heinous crime has been committed in Hathras, leaving a 20-year-old Dalit woman dead. Her body has been burned without the participation or consent of her family. She deserves justice, not slander,” Gandhi said as well.

The Uttar Pradesh secretary general of Congress also used a hashtag, accusing the BJP of being “shameless”.

The 19-year-old Dalit woman from Hathras she was allegedly raped and assaulted by four upper caste men. He later succumbed to injuries in a Delhi hospital.
The incident sparked outrage across the country after television footage showed local police burning the body overnight. His family members alleged that they were not allowed to take the body home for the last time, but police claimed that they had the family’s consent for the cremation.
The family is now demanding a judicial investigation into the incident, while the UP government has requested an investigation from the CBI.
