Hathras gangrape: Supposedly the relatives of the victim were denied the right to perform the last rites, Congress demands the resignation of UP CM | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress on Wednesday slammed the BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh because the family of gang rape victim Hathras was denied the right to perform their last rites, with the party leader Priyanka gandhi Vadra demanding prime minister Yogi Adityanathresignation. The body of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died in a Delhi hospital 15 days after she was gang-raped, was cremated in Hathras in the early hours of Wednesday, and her family alleged that local police forced them to carry out the Last rites of the dead at night.
Local police officers, however, said the cremation was carried out “according to the wishes of the family.”
Congress has been holding protests in the national capital and various parts of Uttar Pradesh demanding justice for the gang rape victim.
Party leader Rahul gandhiIn a tweet, he said: “A daughter from India is raped-murdered, the facts are suppressed and, in the end, the right to perform the last rites is also taken away from the victim’s family.”
“It is insulting and unfair,” he said in the Hindi tweet using the hashtag ‘Hathras Horror Shocks India’.
Along with the tweet, Rahul Gandhi also tagged a video allegedly from the cremation site showing a police officer not responding to questions as to whether the victim’s body was being cremated there.

Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi said: “I was on the phone with the father of the Hathras victim when he was informed that his daughter had passed away. I heard him cry out in despair.”

“He had just told me that all he wanted was justice for his son. Last night, the victim’s father was robbed of the opportunity to take his daughter home one last time and perform her last rites,” he said in a series of tweets. . .

Labeling Adityanath, Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi said: “RESIGN. Instead of protecting the victim and her family, her government became complicit in depriving her of all human rights, even in death. She has no moral right to continue as prime minister. ”
In another tweet in Hindi, he alleged that at 2:30 am on Wednesday “the victim’s relatives continued to request,” but the UP administration “forcibly” incinerated the deceased.

“The government did not protect her when she was alive. The government did not provide her with timely treatment when she was attacked. After her death, the government took away the family’s right to perform the last rites of their daughter and did not respect the deceased.” Priyanka Gandhi said.
Hitting the prime minister, she alleged: “Grave inhumanity. You did not stop the crime, but behaved like criminals. You did not stop the atrocities, but you committed atrocities against an innocent child and his family twice.”
Labeling Adityanath and asking him to resign, Priyanka Gandhi said: “There is no justice in your government, only injustice.”
Congressional senior spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also criticized the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, asking why the victim’s family was denied the right to perform his last rites and why the body was cremated at 2:30 a.m. A.M.
He claimed that all the boundaries of atrocities and brutality had been crossed and demanded the resignation of Yogi Adityanath.
On September 14, the young woman had gone to the countryside with her mother and disappeared shortly after. Later she was found, beaten and tortured, her tongue was cut off by biting it when the accused tried to strangle her.
She was first admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Medical College of the Muslim University of Aligarh and then transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Monday.
