Referring to the Hathras incident, on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly criticized those who make politics about the “corpses of the poor” and said his government “will deal with them with a heavy hand.”
Addressing a virtual meeting with BJP officials from the Bangarmau (Unnao) Assembly constituency, which goes to the polls on November 3, CM Adityanath said, “the faces of those who make policy on the corpses of the The poor are being exposed, the government will identify each one of them and will treat them with a heavy hand in accordance with the law of the land. “
His new attack on the opposition came a day after he alleged that there was a plot to smear his government’s image by provoking “animosity” in society. “The opposition has no other problem to raise than to indulge in negative publicity. They are constantly trying to create divisions … create (developing) obstacles, ”the CM had said.
Earlier this week, UP Police filed 21 cases across the state against, among other charges, attempts to “incite caste and communal tension and defame the state government ”using social media platforms and public gatherings. The charges include sedition, criminal conspiracy and promotion of enmity.
The Adityanath-led government has faced intense criticism from the Opposition for its handling of the murder and alleged gangrape of 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras, including her rushed cremation without family presence. The opposition parties have called for the resignation of the CM even when some critical voices within the BJP have come to light.
The CM further said: “These are the ones for whom the poor have only been a vote bank and poverty alleviation is just another rhetorical political slogan with no encouragement to elevate them.”
He said that for the opposition, politics is just a business and they can lower themselves to the bottom to run their business. “They (the opposition) see everything through the prism of caste, religion and regionalism. These disruptive elements can resort to any wrongdoing and disintegrate the social structure to keep their vote banks intact.
“We must assure the people that we will not allow their evil designs to succeed,” Adityanath added.
Tuesday, the CM fought back invoking its repression against the anti-CAA protests to underscore his determination to counter what he called an Opposition conspiracy.
“You must have seen their faces, the ones who protested the CAA; those who, during the crown pandemic, sheltered Tablighi Jamaat to try to spread the disease … who tried to sow anarchy at different levels in the state … not only did the government unmask them but also took measures to counteract these elements ”, said the CM. He said.
