  • ‘The DM said he was given the wrong body’
  • ‘They have been asked to turn off mobile phones’
  • ‘Being beaten and threatened’

Agra: Amid widespread outrage across the country over the alleged gang rape and death of the Dalit teenager from Hathras and her subsequent forced cremation, her cousin, citing the Hathras District Magistrate, has made a shocking claim that the body of another person was cremated and the body of the victim is preserved.

The victim’s cousin said he overheard the conversation between family members and the district magistrate when the latter visited his home on Thursday. He claimed that the DM said: “We (the administration) did not hand over the body of the victim, his body is refrigerated, the wrong body was cremated.”

‘We are being threatened’

Noting the outrageous atrocities committed by the local police and district administration, the boy further said that they are being prevented from interacting with the media. “The DM beat my uncle (the victim’s father) after he said he would call the media and expose the administration,” the boy said, adding that they were forced to turn off their mobile phones.

‘They won’t let us live here anymore’

Yesterday, a video appeared on social media in which a woman from the victim’s family could be heard crying saying: “They (the administration) have made random videos of the mother’s statements. We talked about everything that occurred to us after the incident … Now they won’t let us live here anymore … (The DM) says we are not trustworthy, we are changing our statement. He’s pressuring us. “

SIT investigating the case

The Dalit teenage victim had succumbed to assault wounds at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday, where she was taken from the Aligarh Muslim University School of Medicine on Monday. The government has formed a three-member SIT to investigate the case and said the matter will be heard in fast-track court. All four defendants in the case have been arrested.
