Following the growing number of COVID19 infections in students, the Haryana government has ordered the closure of all schools, government and private in the state until November 30. Up to 333 students tested positive in recent days after schools in the state reopened.
While some schools in various districts were closed on Wednesday, the Haryana government had stated that it was not willing to close all schools. Only schools that had reported infections were closed.
Subsequently, more cases were reported, increasing the total number of cases from 150 to 333 in two days. Earlier today, CM Manohar Lal Khattar had hinted that the government would reconsider its position on closing all schools. According to the latest update, all schools in the state would now be closed through November 30, 2020. The new date for the reopening of the schools would be announced based on the condition assessment. Haryana was one of the first states to order schools reopened and allow students to attend classes beginning Nov. 2 on a voluntary basis.
Haryana has reported a large number of cases and an apparent increase in infection during the last week. Following the increase in numbers, the Center has also sent a high-level team to Haryana to visit districts to assess the situation and take action, when necessary.
