Coming from a television experience, actress Harshita Gaur’s idea of a lead role was almost set in stone and moving to a web show to play a sister was not her early stage preferred choice. However, one day before the Mirzapur season 2 premiere, Harshita enjoys being part of a web show that has become something of a phenomenon. She is very glad that she did not turn Mirzapur away on the first try “because of his stupidity”, otherwise she would have been very sorry.
“After starring on TV, I wasn’t sure about playing a sister on a web show. After Sadda Haq, I wanted to go for a structure-based project and technically my next step should have been filmmaking. Also, when was approached by Mirzapur, Sacred Games had not been launched and the web space was not what it has become now. But now I realize that it is different here, each person in a web program adds a certain value to it “, he tells us .
It was the intriguing plot and impressive cast that ultimately made Harshita say “yes” to the web show. The actress admits to being intimidated by the Mirzapur cast, which has characters like Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, and Shweta Tripathi. “I had seen them all on screen so I was a little intimidated, but I was relieved after we started filming because they all made me feel at home.
Harshita, who plays Dimpy Pandit on the web show, also has a personal connection to Mirzapur, a city in Uttar Pradesh. Her maternal grandfather was a native of the city and, as a child, he frequently visited there. Sharing vivid memories of his childhood, he said: “When I was young, I used to go to Mirzapur during my summer holidays. In fact, I have seen weapons in that house. Only a few years ago I found out that my naani was threatened and was actually fighting a long case due to an illegal land charge. It still sends chills down my spine when I think about it. “
Resonant with his character, Harshita says that watching Dimpy fight anarchy and injustice in the world of Mirzapur was an investment experience. In the season one finale, he lost one of his brothers and best friend and marginally escaped death with his older brother.
Although Dimpy was a naive girl in the first season, audiences will see a very different side of her in the next season. A glimpse of this was given through a Mirzapur poster showing Harshita with an angry expression and a gun in hand. ‘Iss shehar mei kisi ko justice nhi milta hai’ reads the slogan on the poster.
She said: “For Dimpy, this season has been quite conflictive. She strongly believes in her father’s values, but is trying to create her own reality. After the death of her brother and best friend, her principles are intact, but her perception of reality is changing. It will be interesting to gauge the audience’s reaction to my character because Dimpy has evolved a lot. “
Before saying goodbye, Harshita assured that the audience will see much more of her next year and shared a tip for Mirzapur fans who are anxiously awaiting season 2. “Everyone should leave behind their expectations because many unexpected things will happen in the new one. season. Also, don’t rush to see the show all at once, it will take time to invest in each character and emotion, ”he concluded with a laugh.
The second season of Mirzapur will air from October 23.
