Harris vows to rejoin the Paris Agreement and re-enter the Iran nuclear deal if elected

Indian-born Senator Kamala Harris, a vice presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, has pledged to join the Paris climate accord and re-enter the Iran nuclear deal to restore “our place in the world” and regain “confidence. and the support “of America’s Asian and European allies if their party wins the November presidential election.

Harris, 55, is the running mate of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. At a virtual fundraiser on Friday, he was asked how a Biden-Harris administration would restore the “trust and support of our European and Asian allies.” In response, Harris criticized President Donald Trump and vowed to “join” the Paris agreement on climate change and “strengthen and re-enter” the Iran nuclear deal.

“Joe Biden and our administration are going to do massive work to repair the damage done by Donald Trump and his administration, and to restore our place in the world,” he said.

In 2017, Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement, saying the agreement would have cost the United States trillions of dollars, destroyed jobs and hampered the oil, gas, coal and manufacturing industries.

In 2018, Trump withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

“Part of our strength when, as a country, historically, we entered that room around the world. Part of the strength of our position is not just about our military, it’s not just about our economic strength. It’s about the fact that people believe that when we say something we mean it, ”said the California senator.

“We are loyal to our friends and we keep our word, even when we make commitments, either to NATO or to the Paris agreement that we will honor. And Donald Trump just doesn’t get it. I mean, it’s such an extension of your character as a human being that I think you don’t understand the importance of integrity and consistency in your word, ”Harris said.

In his remarks, Harris touted Biden’s role in auto bailouts. “What gives me great hope is what we have seen time and again that the American people, when given the opportunity, can meet any challenge,” he said.

“In 2009, when the global economy was on the brink of collapse, President Obama turned to Joe Biden to strengthen the American auto industry and help the people of Michigan do what they do best, boost our nation’s economy. And I don’t need to tell any of the leaders on this call. We are in crisis again. And luckily Joe is back, ”he said.

“Joe, of course, championed the Obama-Biden bailout of the American auto industry, along with the people of Michigan, and supported the resurgence of the great city of Detroit,” he said, arguing that under the Trump administration, American manufacturing is in recession.

“Together Joe and I will rebuild the middle class and make sure everyone comes this time. We will revitalize manufacturing and communities that have experienced mass layoffs and provide small manufacturers with the support they need to compete in a global economy, ”he said.
