NEW DELHI – American cult bike maker Harley davidson has decided to close its factory in India as business remains slow and sales are hard to come by. The company could soon announce a partnership with a local Indian two-wheeler company that many hope will be Hero MotoCorp.
Sources said Harley has been downsizing its operations in India and is believed to have laid off workers in the market as business has slowed, especially in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The company had its factory in Bawal in Haryana.
Most of the steps, including job cuts globally, are being initiated as part of a new plan unveiled by new CEO Jochen Zeitz under ‘The Rewire’ review strategy.
Harley officials said the service will be made available to the company’s buyers in India, and care will be taken to provide spare parts and “even new sales.”
“We are changing our business model and will close our manufacturing facilities,” company sources told TOI.
