NEW DELHI: Candidate for NDA and JD (U) MP Harivansh Narayan Singh was re-elected on Monday as Vice President of Rajya Sabha by voice vote.
This is the second time he has been elected vice president of the House. The opposition parties had proposed the candidacy of RJD MP Manoj Sinha for the position.

Head of JD (U) Nitish kumar had called Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on September 10 and asked him to support Singh, a JD (U) MP who had submitted his nomination on Wednesday.
The BJD had also supported Singh in 2018 elections for Rajya Sabha’s vice president position. Then Singh had defected from the BK Hariprasad Congress and became the vice president of RS.
However, the position became vacant after Singh’s term in Rajya Sabha expired in April 2020.
