Veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has been in the news lately. After deciding to withdraw from the upcoming 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to ‘personal reasons’, Bhajji has filed a complaint with Chennai City Police for being cheated on INR 4 crore.

According to a report in the India Times, the businessman to whom Harbhajan had given 4 million rupees, approached the Madras High Court seeking advance bail after the cricketer filed a complaint against his name.

According to Harbhajan, he met the businessman through a mutual friend. He then loaned the amount to the businessman, named G Mahesh, in 2015. Over the years, Bhajji is said to have approached Mahesh several times, but Mahesh kept delaying payment.

Last month, Mahesh had written a check for INR 25 lakh to Bhajji which bounced due to insufficient funds. Having gone to Chennai recently, Harbhajan decided to formally file a police complaint about the case.

According to the newspaper report, the petition has been sent to Neelankarai Deputy Police Commissioner Visveshvaraiah for investigation. Mahesh has already been summoned by the ACP for an investigation. He has filed the application for early bail in Madras High Court which is currently pending.

Meanwhile, Mahesh has stated in his affidavit that he had taken the loan from Harbhajan after issuing real estate in Thalambur as collateral. According to him, all the fees have already been paid to the Indian spinner.

In these times of COVID-19 where not much cricket has been possible, Bhajji decided to withdraw from IPL season 13. The move will also cost you INR 2 crore for which it was purchased by the Super Kings. At a time when the world is reeling from financial crisis, Bhajji would hope to get back the loan he had given to Mahesh by following the legal route.
