Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story is being hailed by many as one of the best web series of 2020, and fans were shocked when the show was seemingly rejected at the recent 2020 Filmfare OTT Awards. Director Hansal Mehta made things clear and revealed why he didn’t win any awards.
An annoyed fan tweeted: “Once again @filmfare does not recognize or appreciate real talent. But this time on the OTT platform. No awards for Scam 1992 the story of Harshad Mehta. 1992 scam that wins everyone’s heart, you are above this @filmfare #pratikgandhi #hansalmehta #shreyadhanwanthary “.
Hansal clarified that Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story was not eligible as it was released after the deadline for this year’s Filmfare OTT awards. Seeing many tweets echoing similar sentiments. # Scam1992 launched long after the deadline for this year’s #FilmfareOTTAwards. Therefore, he was not eligible for the nomination. Our greatest reward is the love we continue to receive from you, ”he wrote on Twitter.
In a follow-up tweet, Hansal said that each winner deserved it. “Fantastic nominees, each one deserves an award. And absolutely deserving winners. These awards were a much-needed celebration of genuine talent. It is very comforting to witness it, ”he wrote.

Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story follows the meteoric rise and subsequent downfall of stockbroker Harshad Mehta, who was implicated in the 1992 stock market scam. The series stars Pratik Gandhi as Harshad, with a cast who also includes Shreya Dhanwanthary, Satish Kaushik, and others.
The Hindustan Times review of the show called it a ‘fascinating watch’. By giving audiences much-needed context and perspective, a series on a simple topic like the stock scam turns into a binge-worthy 500 minutes of viewing. It allows us to decide whether Harshad was a victim or a criminal, while ensuring that he shows us the person he was, ”he said.
