Maharashtra ATS arrested an employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for allegedly providing confidential information about fighter jets to Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) agency. The 41-year-old defendant, identified as Deepak Shirsath, was arrested after the Nashik unit of the ATS received a tip based on reliable information.
According to ATS sources, Shirsath was providing secret information about Indian fighter jets and their manufacturing unit to a foreign national. During sustained questioning, the defendant revealed that he was in constant contact with Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), the Pakistani intelligence agency, and was providing them with confidential information about Indian fighter jets and other sensitive details. It was also relaying information related to HAL, its aircraft manufacturing unit in Ozar, Nashik, the air base, and the prohibited areas.
An offense under articles 3, 4 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923 has been registered against the accused. They have also seized three mobile phones with five SIM cards and two memory cards, which will be sent to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory for examination.
The defendant was presented in court on Friday and has been placed in pre-trial detention for 10 days of ATS.
