GURUGRAM: A man involved in a Rs 400 crore fraud case with Citibank in 2010 was arrested by the Gurugram policeauthorities said Sunday.
The defendant was then arrested but was free on bail granted by the court. But later the defendant did not appear in court and was found guilty.
The arrested defendant was identified as Shivraj Puri, a resident of DLF Phase-5 in Gurugram.
According to the police, the culprit was sentenced by a Gurugram court for an alleged case of fraud, but the defendant had transferred to the High Court which granted him bail.
The defendant was captured in Dehradun on November 13, police said.
“He was out on bail but did not attend any judicial proceedings since then and was later declared a criminal by the court. The police will seek the accused’s remand for further questioning, Sangwan said.
In 2010, the Citibank fraud it had made headlines across the country. In addition to the Gurugram police, a team from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had also conducted separate investigations in relation to the massive fraud.
In connection with this, a case was registered under sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B of the IPC at the DLF Phase-2 police station in Gurugram.
