A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Gurgaon, police said Thursday.

According to officials, the incident is believed to have occurred between October 21-27, but came to light only on Tuesday when the victim confided in her father when he visited her in the ICU. The victim is being treated for tuberculosis at the hospital, where she was admitted on October 21. He is in a semi-conscious state with respiratory assistance.

“An FIR has been registered regarding the matter under section 376 (violation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). She has named the defendants and we are questioning all hospital employees by that name, ”said Inspector Bijender Singh, an officer from the Sushant Lok Police Station (SHO), where the FIR has been staying. .

“We are also scanning the CCTV images from the cameras installed in the hospital, but we have not found anything suspicious yet. The defendant has not been identified and we have not been able to take a statement from the victim since she is not in shape at this time. She had alerted her father to the incident through posters and by writing the defendant’s name. We are investigating the matter, ”he said.

The hospital, meanwhile, in a statement released Thursday, said they are “providing full cooperation” to the investigation.

“The patient was admitted to the ICU and since the second day of admission she has been on ventilatory support. Six days after admission, the patient claimed to have been raped on the day of admission. Publish your complaint, we immediately inform the police. We have a zero tolerance policy in such situations and we are providing full cooperation and support to the police, including full CCTV footage, ”the statement said.
