The National Investigative Agency (NIA) arrested a person in Gujarat on Sunday after he was found to be working as an agent for the Pakistan Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).
Rajakbhai Kumbhar was arrested in the West Kutch region in connection with the Defense / ISI case originally reported in Uttar Pradesh.
The case concerns an FIR registered on January 19 at Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Police Station regarding the arrest of Mohammad Rashid from Mughalsarai in Chandoli district.
The NIA re-registered the case in April of this year. During the investigation, it was revealed that Rashid was in contact with Pakistan’s Defense / ISI handlers and had visited Pakistan twice.
According to NIA, he had transmitted photographs of some sensitive and strategically important facilities in India and had also shared information about the movement of the armed forces with ISI handlers in Pakistan.
The agency conducted a search at Kumbhar’s home on Friday in connection with the case and found that he had transferred Rs 5,000 through Paytm to the account of a Rizwan, which was later turned over to Rashid.
The amount was remitted to Rashid by Kumbhar following the instructions of the ISI agents rather than the information provided by the former.
During the search at Kumbhar’s house, incriminating documents were seized.
