A specialized chemist named PTBC, manufactured only in the Vapi city of Gujarat, will be dispatched to Visakhapatnam urgently to help neutralize the effects of the gas leak at a polymer plant there, a Gujarat government official said Thursday.

A major leak from an LG Polymers chemical plant near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday impacted villages within a five-kilometer radius, leaving eight people dead and dozens of citizens complaining of dyspnea, nausea and other problems. .

Butylcatechol paratertiary or PTBC is currently being used in Visakhapatnam to neutralize the effect of the gas leak, said Ashwani Kumar, secretary of the Gujarat prime minister’s office.

“This chemical, used to reduce the effects of gas in the air after a leak, is manufactured only in Vapi. The Andhra Pradesh government has asked Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to facilitate air transportation of the chemical from Vapi as soon as possible. “Kumar said.

According to Rupani’s instructions, senior officials have asked the collector of the Valsad district to make the necessary arrangements to obtain 500 kg of the chemical. The stock will soon be airlifted from Daman, where it will be taken by road from Vapi, he said.
