As the count for the district and taluka (block) panchayats in the municipalities is still underway, the BJP has done a clean sweep based on the tracks and results declared so far.
The BJP has won 1,967 seats in the elections of Nagar Palika, Congress 356, while the AAP has won nine seats.
At panchayat district elections, BJP won 735 panchayats seats, Congress in 157 and AAP in two seats.
The BJP leads with 1,636 seats, Congress with 625 and the AAP with 16 seats.
Of the total of 81 municipalities, the BJP led in 75 municipalities. Congress came in a distant second by leaving in four municipalities while the AAP was ahead in two.
BJP holds position number one
Last week, the BJP swept the six key municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar. Not only did he maintain his control over these corporations, but he also improved their performance compared to the last elections. It gained 483 seats last week compared to 389 in 2015.
The BJP has shown remarkable resistance in the elections of municipal and local bodies. After the party’s victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, its position in Gujarat had slipped into local bodies. He was only able to win six of the 31 district panchayats. However, it is ahead in all of them and in 196 out of 231 taluka panchayats.
A similar pattern was seen in Gujarat’s 2017 assembly elections, when the BJP’s tally slid to 99 seats in the 182-member chamber, while the party had won 115 seats in the 2012 state elections.
The current elections of municipal and local bodies indicate an increase in the strength of the BJP in the 2022 assembly elections. They are also a shot in the arm for the prime minister of Gujarat. Vijay rupani and the state president of the party, CR Patil.
Reacting to the results, Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet: “Poll results from Nagar Palika, Taluka Panchayat and the Panchayat district across Gujarat give a very clear message: Gujarat is firmly on board with the development agenda and good governance of the BJP. I bow to the people of Gujarat out of unwavering faith and affection towards BJP. ”

Congress loses ground
After showing better results in the 2015 municipal and local body elections and the 2017 assembly polls, the performance of Congress has deteriorated in this year’s elections.
Congress was victorious in 21 district panchayats in 2015. In taluka panchayats, he was the winner in 132 out of 230. However, on Tuesday he only led in 33 taluka panchayats.
In the 2015 municipal corporation elections, Congress had won 174 seats. However, this year it only won 44 seats.
He posted a similar performance in the 2017 assembly elections. His tally increased from 61 in 2012 to 77 in 2017. Congressional vote share also jumped from 38.95 percent in 2012 to 41.4 percent in 2017, an increase of 2.45 percent.
The two consecutive defeats in a week led the President of the Gujarat Congress, Amit Chavda, and the leader of the State Congress Legislative Party, Paresh Dhanani, to resign from their positions.
The party must strive to improve this downward trend in the 2022 assembly elections.
AAP’s surprise debut
The AAP has bagged nine seats in the municipalities against 1,967 of the BJP and 356 of the Congress.
In the panchayat district elections, the AAP won two seats, while the BJP won 735 and the Congress 157 seats. The AAP leads with 16 seats compared to 1,636 seats in the BJP and 625 in Congress.
AAP has also entered rural Gujarat. In last week’s municipal corporation elections, the AAP evicted Congress as the main opposition party in Surat by winning 27 out of 111 seats. Congress failed to win a single seat in Surat.
Encouraged by the results in Surat, AAP coordinator and chief minister of Delhi Arvind kejriwal held a roadshow in the city on February 26.
AAP has now become BJP’s main rival in Surat.
The AAP is now ready to expand its base in other parts of Gujarat for the next assembly elections.
It has already announced its plan to participate in the elections to the state assemblies of Punjab, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh as well.
