Gujarat CM reviews night curfew schedules in four cities from January 1


Chief Minister Vijay Rupani revised the night curfew times in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot from January 1 on Wednesday, relaxing them by one hour to Uttarayan. Under the new order, the restrictions will now remain in effect between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Currently, the night curfew is implemented in all four cities from 9 pm to 6 am. Police have banned hotels from holding night parties on New Year’s Eve on Thursday.

“The prime minister has announced that from January 1 to 14, the night curfew will be implemented from 10 pm to 6 am in the four metropolitan cities,” said a statement issued by the prime minister’s office.

On Wednesday, Ahmedabad police issued a notice stating that the night curfew is in progress, between 9:00 p.m. M. And 6:00 a. M., will continue in the city on December 31 and banned restaurants, hotels or party places to host nightly celebrations.

At a press conference at the Ahmedabad police headquarters in Shahibaug, Harshad Patel, the Deputy Police Commissioner (Control Room) said that the ongoing night curfew, imposed in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, It will be strictly implemented in Ahmedabad on December 31 at night. “We have a message for the residents of Ahmedabad that they should stay home after 9pm and if they have to leave the city on December 31st, then they should make sure their travel plan is made accordingly so that they return to home at 9 pm. Those found in violation of the night curfew will be investigated and if a satisfactory reason is not given, they will be prosecuted for violation of police notification, ”said DCP.

Patel said a total of seven DCPs, 14 assistant police commissioners, 50 police inspectors, 100 deputy police inspectors and 3,500 police officers will be deployed across the city to ensure the implementation of the close curfew orders. “We will also install 30 checkpoints in the city of Ahmedabad so that people from the rural areas of Ahmedabad or other cities cannot enter the city facilities after 9pm without necessary or valid reasons,” added DCP.

Only those associated with necessary services, such as milk, medicine, and gas pumps, can operate between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM today. Passengers traveling by road to catch a train or flight are also exempt and allowed to travel.

On New Year’s Eve, Patel added, the vehicles will be rigorously checked to ensure there are no instances of drunk driving. Police were ordered not to use breathalyzers due to the pandemic.

“If someone is found under the influence of a substance, the police will monitor their speech and movements. If the need arises, a blood sample will be taken on the spot for testing. If alcohol is found in your samples, they will be reserved according to the Prohibition Law. No night parties will be allowed in any hotel or restaurant and the police will be constantly monitoring live CCTV recordings and if any store is seen open after 9pm, or we find any gathering of people, then strict action will be taken against them. Patel said.
