Gujarat: BJP tribal leader Mansukh Vasava resigns from party

Bharuch BJP MP Lok Sabha and tribal leader Mansukh Vasava resigned from the party on Tuesday. Vasava’s resignation comes days after he wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking withdrawal of MoEFCC notice declaring 121 villages in the Narmada district as an ‘eco-sensitive zone’.

In a letter to Gujarat BJP President CR Paatil, Vasava stated that he will submit his resignation as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha president during the next budget session. “The game has given me opportunities beyond my ability. I will always be grateful for this to the central management. I have carefully adhered to the principles of the party, as well as my personal belief system. But at the end of the day, I am a human destined to err. So that my mistakes do not harm the party, I present my resignation. Please forgive me. I will also present my resignation as a Member of Parliament to the Honorable Speaker of Lok Sabha, during the next budget session, ”he stated in the letter.

In the run-up to the local body elections in Gujarat early next year, Vasava’s resignation comes amid a tribal protest in the Narmada district over the final notice declaring the eco-sensitive zone around the Shrine of Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife which will include 121 villages around the Statue. of the Unit.

Last week, Vasava had written to the prime minister, urging him to withdraw the order from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in the “interest of farmers and locals.” “In the name of the MoEFCC notification, government officials have begun to interfere with the private property of the tribes. The local Narmada tribesmen have not been trusted or given an understanding of the problem, creating fear and mistrust among them. The locals are preparing for the protests and some opposition parties are taking advantage of the lack of communication between the government and the locals, inciting them against the government ”, said the deputy.

Vasava has also urged Modi to withdraw the notification to restore “peace and order” in the lives of the locals. “The area around the Statue of Unity in the Narmada district is developing rapidly due to tourism projects. However, it is my humble request that the area be removed from the scope of the eco-sensitive zone to allay the fears of the local communities and for the benefit of the tribes. It will also help mitigate opposition from the tribes here. “

Vasava’s letter against the eco-sensitive zone came one day when the Gujarat government Department of General Administration published the government plan for the Tourism Governance Authority and Development of the Unity Statue Area or the Tourism Authority of the Statue of Unity (SoUTA), announcing two management circles that will have a force of 201 people for the operation and maintenance, water supply, sewage, roads, parking, lights as well as decorative lighting in the area of 25 square meters of the Kevadia neighborhood.

Senior party officials, who were quick to ask Vasava to reconsider his decision, claim the six-term deputy has cited his support for the ongoing opposition of the tribes against the MoEFCC notification of May 5, 2016.

Two days ago, the former BJP MLA of the Narmada district Dediapada assembly constituency Motilal Vasava, who is also the state party leader for the tribal cell, had written to the Sarpanches of the 121 villages to use the next gram sabhas from the villages to pass resolutions against the government order to implement MoEFCC notification.

What is notification?

The letter issued by the local Mamlatdars of Narmada, to the villages within their territorial jurisdiction, as of November 7, read: “According to the letter from the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Narmada, dated January 21, 2020, The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has published a final notification declaring an eco-sensitive zone around the Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Narmada on May 5, 2016. Accordingly, in accordance with the provisions of said notification of the central government, various activities will now be in prohibited standing in the eco-sensitive zone. The lands of the eco-sensitive zone – including those of the forest department, horticulture department, for agricultural use, parcels reserved for parks – may not be transferred for non-agricultural use for commercial, industrial or residential purposes. Any land that needs to be transferred for non-agricultural use may do so only after mandatory approval for such transfer is requested from the state government, based on a request from the Monitoring Committee. At this time, the area on the periphery of the Shoolpaneshwar wildlife sanctuary has been included in the eco-sensitive zone and the entire village has been included in this list. Since the area is now under the eco-sensitive zone notification, the process has started to include the state government as the second owner of the lands in the villages according to the income survey numbers. The inclusion of this government entry in the Register of Rights prescribed in Form VII of the Villa of the Land Revenue Registries has been made according to the notification from the central government mentioned above. “

In their objection, the villagers have cited “full possession” of their land, guaranteed by the provisions of the Panchayats (Extension to Listed Areas) Act 1996 or PESA, a law enacted by the government of India. to ensure self-government using traditional Gram Sabhas for people living in programmed areas of India.
