GST portal expanded to handle 3 lakh taxpayers at the same time

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) portal will now be able to handle twice the taxpayer traffic for filing returns than it used to after the GST infrastructure was upgraded to handle up to three lakh of users to the time.

“The GSTN Portal now successfully handles almost double the taxpayer traffic for filing returns immediately after closing. It has been possible thanks to the fact that the GST infrastructure has been updated to handle up to three lakh of registered users simultaneously at the same time, ”according to an official statement.

The capacity of the gateway was increased from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh of concurrently registered taxpayers in preparation for the expected increase in activities related to indirect taxes on the portal following the easing of the lockdown in June 2020.

If required, the GSTN can even handle and scale up to five lakh of registered taxpayers simultaneously. “The GST ecosystem is future-proofed to deliver a seamless experience to taxpayers with its increased capacity even beyond current upload limits. Taking into account the increase during peak presentation, GSTN also undertook the performance and stress tests of the GST system applications that helped identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the software, ”the official statement further said.

According to the ANI news agency, GSTN data shows a sudden jump in the filing of GSTR-3B, the monthly return filed by normal taxpayers, in September 2020. Furthermore, the number of active taxpayers has doubled since the launch. GST at about 1.3 crore.

“This increase was due to the delay in filing returns from previous months, thus providing relaxations to taxpayers in light of the Covid-19 outbreak,” the official statement said.
