GST Evasion: GST officers arrest a person for evasion of duties of around Rs 831.72 crore


NEW DELHI: GST officers have unearthed tax evasion 832 million rupees for clandestine manufacturing and supply of gutkha / pan masala tobacco products and arrested one person, the finance Minister he said on Sunday.
“GST Central Delhi’s Western Commissioner has uncovered GST evasion through clandestine manufacturing and supply of gutkha / pan masala tobacco products without any registration and payment of duties.
“Based on the evidence gathered, the stocks seized and the confessional statements recorded, it is estimated that the total evasion of rights is approximately 831.72 million rupees. Further investigations are underway,” the ministry said in a statement.
Based on searches at the facility, it was discovered that gutkha / pan masala / tobacco products were being produced illegally.

Around 65 workers were found working in the illegal factory. The finished gutkha product was being supplied to various states in India.
The searches resulted in the seizure of finished gutkha and raw materials such as chuna, sada kattha, tobacco leaves, etc., valued at approximately Rs 4.14 crore, it added.
A person has been arrested in the matter for his participation in the manufacture and supply of goods without issuing any invoice with the intention of evading taxes, as well as in the transport, withdrawal, deposit, custody, concealment, supply or purchase of goods in violation of the provisions of the GST law, he added.
The accused has been detained and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Further investigations are underway to identify the main conspirators in the case and recover the tax dues involved, the ministry added.
The Delhi GST area has detected an evasion of Rs 4,327 crore in the current financial year and 15 people have been arrested for these matters.
