The Center may allow more passenger trains to sail with more passengers, as the Ministry of Railways issued an order Wednesday night allowing tickets to be issued on a waiting list for trains starting May 22.

To be clear, tickets are currently not issued on the waiting list for passenger trains that started on or after May 12. The reservation for the new batch of passenger trains will start from May 15.

The national carrier can also deploy Shatabdi and other express mail trains. For now, only Rajdhani trains were deployed to carry passengers.

“It has been decided that these special trains and special trains will be notified in due time … there will be no Reserve Against Cancellation (RAC) on these trains and waiting list tickets will be issued subject to maximum limits; 200 for sleepers, 100 for AC and 3 AC saddle cars, 50 for 2 AC and 20 for each business class and 1 AC, ”said the order, a copy of which has been reviewed by the Hindustan Times.

Authorities said passengers who booked the trains had canceled some tickets at the last minute. “We will start issuing very few tickets on the waiting list starting May 22 because some passengers are canceling their tickets at the last minute,” said a senior official at the Ministry of Railways.

The railroads resumed their passenger services after a nearly two-month gap on Tuesday with eight air-conditioned trains carrying more than 13,000 passengers. Authorities said the overall occupancy of the trains was more than 100%.

So far, the railways have reported 2,08,965 passenger reservations for the 30 trains as of Wednesday. Authorities accept reservations up to seven days in advance for the 15 pairs of special trains that the government has announced to resume passenger services.

Under current guidelines, passengers will be required to book general category tickets online, on the IRCTC website and in its application. Some reservation desks will be opened for HOR holders (high official request), freedom fighters and practicing legislators and former legislators, among others.

RAC (Reservation against cancellation) will not be allowed.

“Anyone who is not allowed to board the train due to symptoms will receive a full refund,” the official quoted above said.

Online cancellation will be allowed up to 24 hours before scheduled departure, and the cancellation fee will be 50% of the rate.
